The Mender’s Curse Book Review

The Mender's Curse

As their journey unfolds, so too does their bond, growing stronger with each challenge they face. Amidst the twists and turns, Liam is forced to confront the ultimate question: Does he truly wish to break his curse and embrace mortality, or will he choose to live forever, bearing the pain of eternal life?

Follow Liam and his companions on their journey where love becomes an unstoppable force, and destiny awaits at every turn.

REVIEW

This is such a strong debut for a new author. The Mender’s Curse is everything you’d want in a classic fantasy—magic, rebellion, an epic quest, and a cast of characters you actually care about. The world is wonderfully immersive without being overwhelming, and the story hits that perfect balance between action, heart, and quiet moments of healing and development.

The main duo, Liam and Sapphira, are instantly engaging. Their dynamic feels real, and the relationship that builds between them is mature, sweet, and steady. The side characters are just as memorable—Oz and Asa are my absolute favorites—and the overall group dynamic is really so well done. I love a good quest squad, and this one delivered.

There’s also fantastic disability representation here, woven into the story naturally and respectfully. The themes of found family and recovery (both emotional and physical) give the whole book a grounded, human feel, even with magical creatures and curses flying around.

For fans of epic fantasy seeking a fresh voice and a compelling story, The Mender’s Curse is definitely worth picking up. The ending wraps things up nicely while still leaving enough open for the next book, The Mage’s Stone, and I’ll certainly be reading whatever Korver writes next!

Original publication date was 17 Feb 2025.

I lived nine hundred years serving myself, wallowing in grief. I will not waste this second chance I have at another life, another love.
