“What if I don’t want any of this?” I whispered, my voice laden with uncertainty.

“You don’t have a choice. None of us do.” His voice quivered slightly.

REVIEW

Holli Gregory’s debut novel, Heritage, introduces Grace Chamberlain, a seventeen-year-old discovering her lineage as a descendant of Greek gods amid threats and impending supernatural powers. The book kicks off with an epic premise, pulling readers into Grace’s path of self-discovery and the weight of her newfound heritage. In fact, the journey of navigating her supernatural abilities in a contemporary setting is reminiscent of the excitement found in beloved stories like Percy Jackson.

While the concept is fantastic, there’s some room for tweaking in execution. The pacing occasionally felt a bit uneven, rushing through certain plotlines and leaving me longing for a more detailed exploration while lingering on others. The character development, especially in the romance department, could use a little more depth to make those connections feel richer and more authentic. Finally, I found myself wishing for more clarity in timelines and a more satisfying climax and conclusive ending that tied up loose ends.

Yet, despite these nuances, Heritage remains an enjoyable read that draws you into a world of good vs. evil, forbidden love, and the merging of mythology with challenges of our time. It has the potential to attract both young adults and teenagers alike, offering a nice blend of adventure and myth that’s bound to entertain and captivate.

Expected publication date is 20 December 2023.
