The Trident and the Pearl Book Review

The Trident and the Pearl

“Forever is a terrible, lingering thing…”

Synopsis

Forced by the gods to be wed. Forced by their secrets to be enemies. A desperate queen and a lowly fisherman must join together to save her land in this spellbinding romantasy from Sarah K. L. Wilson.

Queen Coralys, ruler of the Crocus Isles, kneels to no one. But when her kingdom is besieged by a terrible hurricane, killing her husband and destroying half her nation, she is forced to make a deal with the gods for salvation.

But the gods have a wicked sense of justice, and they demand payment for their help. Coralys must give up her titles and marry the first man to set foot on her pier: a poor, wounded fisherman with broad shoulders and dark power in his eyes.

Coralys keeps her promise and sets out with him in his dinghy, with only the hope of revenge against the gods to keep her from despair. But her new husband hides his own secrets: a link to the gods that may make him her enemy or her ally, and a mysterious list of impossible feats waiting to be crossed off. However, learning to trust each other will be their greatest challenge, because only together can they stop the enemies gathering at her kingdom’s shores.

REVIEW

Let me tell you— I was INVESTED in this story. Like, I’m talking, I started it last night and finished it this morning at 2:30 this morning. I flew through it. I don’t want to spoil anything or influence anyone’s opinions or thoughts too much as they read, so I’ll just say this: Coralys sucks, Oke is life!

Can’t wait for book 2! Huge thanks to Orbit Books for the gifted copy.

Expected publication date is 24 February 2026.

Author Profile

Sarah K. L. Wilson is a USA Today Bestselling author who has written almost one hundred fantasy novels and novellas.

Sarah worries frequently that she won’t be an able to write all the books she wants to in this lifetime—as she has far too many ideas—and is convinced she will have a long list to attend to in the next life.

Sarah writes fantasy stories featuring practical heroines in the most impractical circumstances. She loves writing because it is the only way to make a living and give back to the world when your primary skill is an overactive imagination and a tendency toward violent daydreams.
